AliExpress to Etsy: What's Allowed and How to Build the Listing, Step by Step

Short answer: you can't take a finished AliExpress product, list it on Etsy and have the supplier ship it to your buyer. Etsy bans drop shipping and reselling, with a few exceptions such as craft and party supplies. What you can do is sell supplies, turn components into items you make yourself, or have a real production partner make your own design. Here is how to check which case you're in, then turn the supplier page into a clean listing.

What Etsy allows when your product comes from AliExpress

Etsy's Seller Policy is blunt: drop shipping and reselling are not allowed, except in the specific cases Etsy lists. Everything you sell must be made by you, designed by you, handpicked by you (vintage items at least 20 years old, items from nature, curated gift baskets) or sourced by you in a way that supports creativity (craft supplies, party supplies, items personalized with the buyer's own text or image). Here is how the usual AliExpress scenarios map to those rules.

What you want to doAllowed on Etsy? Why
List a finished product and have the supplier ship it straight to your buyerNoThat is drop shipping. Etsy only allows it for craft and party supplies.
Buy finished products in bulk and resell them as they areNoReselling a commercially available item you didn't make or design isn't allowed.
Add a card, gift tag or note to an otherwise unchanged productNoEtsy names this exact case as prohibited reselling.
Sell beads, charms, yarn, fabric, tools or blanks meant to be finishedYes, as craft suppliesCraft supplies can be commercial. Their main purpose must be making something new.
Sell table decorations, balloons, banners or wrapping paperYes, as party suppliesAllowed when the main purpose is decorating a specific event.
Hand-assemble components into a new item, like charms on a chainYes, made by youHand-assembled items count. Following the manufacturer's instructions or gluing on one ornament doesn't.
Have a manufacturer produce your own original designYes, if disclosedIt must be a qualifying production partner, declared on the listing and visible in your shop's About section.
Put your logo on a supplier's existing catalog productNoWhite label, OEM and ODM manufacturers, retailers and wholesalers are not production partners.

"Craft supply" has limits too. Etsy's Creativity Standards exclude resold blanks that are ready to use as they are (a plain t-shirt or tumbler), generic kitchenware, office, garden, cosmetic or DIY supplies, and everyday items that could be used at a party but aren't decorations, such as standard tableware, costumes or party favors. And a new item styled to look old is not vintage.

The stakes are real. Etsy can remove listings that break these rules, and you still owe the listing fee. Its help center also warns that working with non-qualifying businesses to source products violates the reselling policy and can lead to penalties up to and including account suspension. The only approach that lasts is to sell items that genuinely fit one of the allowed cases.

Step by step: from supplier page to Etsy listing

Once your product fits, the listing itself is a checklist. Etsy's listing form has seven tabs: photos and video, category, item details, item options, pricing and shipping, how it's made, and settings. This is the order that saves the most time.

  1. Confirm which case you're in

Craft or party supply, item made by you, or your design made by a partner. That choice drives everything else: the category, your "How it's made" answers, the photos you're allowed to use and whether you must declare a production partner.
  2. Import the supplier data instead of retyping it

Copying specs by hand is where errors creep in. With the Etsnipe Chrome extension, one click on the AliExpress product page sends the title, photos, variations, prices and specifications to the listing generator. See how to install the Chrome extension.
  3. Answer "How it's made" truthfully

Tell Etsy who made the item, what it is and when it was made. If a production partner makes it, add the partner (in Shop Manager, under Settings, then Partners you work with) and make sure the listing's shipping location reflects where the partner ships from.
  4. Write a short, clear title

Supplier titles are usually long strings of keywords, often machine-translated. Etsy now recommends naming the item clearly, putting the most important traits (color, material, size) first and staying under about 15 words. The hard limit is 140 characters. Details in our guide to writing an Etsy SEO title.
  5. Fill in attributes, then all 13 tags

Attributes (color, material, dimensions and so on) work like tags, so fill every relevant one first. Then use all 13 tags, up to 20 characters each, as multi-word phrases that don't repeat your category or attributes. See how to choose your 13 Etsy tags.
  6. Write an accurate description

Say what the item is in the first sentence, then give the details a buyer needs: materials, dimensions, quantity per pack, variations. Etsy's Seller Policy requires you to represent items accurately, including country of origin, provenance, components and materials. Only state what the supplier data actually supports.
  7. Add photos that follow Etsy's image rules

For items you make or design, Etsy wants your own photos of the real finished item, not stock images or photos used by other sellers or sites. Craft and party supplies may use commercial images from the manufacturer or distributor, within Etsy's intellectual property rules. A design printed onto a blank (a t-shirt, a mug) by a partner can be shown with a mockup. Make the first photo a single, clear, well-lit shot of the finished product (Etsy recommends at least 2000 pixels per side). You can add up to 20 photos and 2 videos.
  8. Price with every fee included

Your price has to cover the product, shipping and Etsy's fees: a USD 0.20 listing fee per four-month listing period, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus what you charge for shipping and gift wrap, payment processing fees that depend on where your bank account is, and, for orders attributed to Offsite Ads, a 15% or 12% fee depending on your sales over the past year. Keep discounts honest: Etsy requires promotions and price comparisons to reflect real prices.
  9. Set realistic processing and shipping, then publish

Etsy requires a processing time and delivery estimates in your shipping profiles. If you sell to the European Economic Area or Northern Ireland as a trader, you may also need manufacturer and safety information under the GPSR. Once published, a new listing can take up to 48 hours to appear in Etsy search.

Where Etsnipe fits, and where you stay in charge

Etsnipe removes the repetitive part of listing, not the decisions. Here is who does what.

What the auto prompt does with your photos
You don't pick any scene. The AI looks at the supplier photo (the product, its material, who it's for), writes a different setting for each image with pro lighting and framing, then recreates the product as is in that setting. The supplier's photo is never published as is. Your job stays the same: compare every image with the item you actually ship before you publish.
An honest note on titles
Etsnipe's default title is longer and more keyword-heavy than Etsy's April 2026 guidance suggests. Treat it as a draft: keep the opening part that names the item and its key traits, and move the rest into tags and attributes.

Mistakes that get AliExpress-sourced listings in trouble

  • Listing a finished product as handmade. Reselling isn't allowed in the Handmade category, whatever the title says.
  • Using the supplier's photos for an item you made or designed. In those cases Etsy asks for your own photos of the real item.
  • Copying claims from the supplier page. If the specs don't prove "sterling silver" or "organic cotton", your listing shouldn't say it.
  • Hiding a production partner. Disclosure is required, and the ship-from location has to be accurate.
  • Inventing a "was" price to show a discount. Etsy requires promotions to be based on real prices.

FAQ

Is dropshipping from AliExpress allowed on Etsy?

Not for finished products. Etsy's help center states that drop shipping isn't allowed, with the limited exception of craft and party supplies.

Can I sell AliExpress products as handmade?

No. Reselling isn't allowed in the Handmade category. An item you genuinely make from supplies, for example by hand-assembling components, is yours; a superficial change to a commercial product doesn't qualify.

Can an AliExpress supplier be my production partner?

Only if it produces your original design to your specifications, like a contract manufacturer. A supplier selling you its existing catalog product, even with your logo on it, falls into the white label, OEM, ODM or wholesaler groups that Etsy excludes.

Can I use the supplier's product photos?

For craft and party supplies, Etsy's Creativity Standards allow commercial images from the manufacturer or distributor, subject to its intellectual property policy. For items you make or design, use your own photos of the finished item.

How long before a new listing shows up in search?

Etsy says it can take up to 48 hours for a newly published listing to appear in search results and categories.
