Etsy Fees Calculator 2026: Every Fee Explained
Most Etsy sales carry three fees: a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping, and a payment processing fee set by your bank's country (3% + $0.25 in the US, 4% + €0.30 in France and most of the eurozone). Some countries add a Regulatory Operating fee, and Offsite Ads can take 12% or 15% of an order. The calculator below adds it all up.

Etsy fees at a glance
These are the fees that can apply to a physical item sold through Etsy Payments. Etsy quotes all of them before VAT.

Optional services are extra: Etsy Ads, shipping labels, Etsy Plus ($10 a month) and Pattern ($15 a month after a 30-day trial). In some locations there is also a one-time shop set-up fee whose amount varies; see Etsy for yours.
Listing fee: $0.20 per listing, every four months
Every item you publish on Etsy.com costs $0.20 USD, whether it sells or not. A listing lasts four months. With auto-renew on, Etsy renews it at the end of that period and charges another $0.20. You can switch one listing, or your whole shop, to manual renewal in the Listings Manager. Editing a listing is free.
Two details catch new sellers. If you list several units of the same item, each extra unit sold renews the listing for another $0.20. And because fixed fees are published in US dollars, a seller paid in euros or pounds pays the market-rate equivalent on the day the fee posts. Private listings made for one buyer are only charged if that buyer purchases.
Transaction fee: 6.5% of the price and the shipping
When an item sells, Etsy takes 6.5% of the listing price plus what you charge for shipping and gift wrap. Paid personalization is added to the listing price, so it is covered too. That is why "free shipping" doesn't change the fee: whether the buyer pays $25 + $5 shipping or $30 with free shipping, Etsy charges 6.5% of $30.
Taxes depend on where you are based. From the US, the fee does not apply to the sales tax Etsy collects. Outside the US, it applies to your listing price, which should already include any tax you owe as the seller. Etsy's policy also forbids changing a price after a sale to avoid the fee, so build it into your price instead.
Payment processing fees depend on your bank's country
Orders paid through Etsy Payments carry a processing fee on top of the transaction fee. The rate is set by the country of the bank account that receives your payouts, not by where the buyer lives, and it is calculated on the whole order: item, shipping and any tax.
| Bank account location | Processing fee |
|---|---|
| United States | 3% + $0.25 |
| Canada | 3% + CA$0.25 (domestic and US orders), 4% + CA$0.25 (other international orders) |
| United Kingdom | 4% + £0.20 |
| France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Netherlands | 4% + €0.30 |
| Australia | 3% + A$0.25 (domestic), 4% + A$0.25 (international) |
In a few markets Etsy also charges a small fee on payouts below a set threshold, and it can add VAT to processing fees where required. The full country list is in Etsy's Payments Policy (see Sources).
Regulatory Operating fee: an extra percentage in nine countries
Etsy introduced this fee in countries where new regulations raised its costs. It is a fixed percentage of the item price plus shipping, gift wrap and personalization included, and VAT applies to it where relevant. The current rates are: Canada 0.50%, France 1.14%, Hungary 1.97%, Italy 0.80%, India 0.05%, Spain 0.88%, Türkiye 1.67%, United Kingdom 0.48% and Vietnam 1.24%. US sellers don't pay it.
Offsite Ads: 12% or 15% of the order, capped at $100
Etsy buys ads for its listings on social networks and search engines. If a shopper clicks your listing in one of those ads and orders from your shop within 30 days, you pay an Offsite Ads fee on that order. If their last click before buying was an Etsy Ads placement, only the Etsy Ads cost applies.
- Under $10,000 in sales over the past 365 days: the fee is 15%, and you can opt out.
- At $10,000 or more: the fee drops to 12%, participation becomes mandatory, and the 12% rate stays for the life of the shop even if sales fall later.
- The fee applies to the order total (items, shipping, gift wrap and, in some places, taxes) and never exceeds $100 per order.
Run the calculator with Offsite Ads on. If a 15% hit would wipe out your profit and you are still under the threshold, either raise your price or opt out in your advertising settings.
Currency conversion and VAT on fees
If you list in a currency that differs from your payment account's, Etsy converts each sale and charges 2.5% on the sale amount. Etsy recommends listing in your payment account currency; buyers still see prices in their own.
In the EU (except Ireland), the UK and a number of other countries, Etsy adds VAT to your seller fees unless you have added a VAT ID to your account. In Ireland and a few others it charges VAT either way. Etsy doesn't publish a single rate, so use the one on your monthly Etsy VAT invoice in the calculator's advanced options.
A worked example
A US seller sells a $25 item and charges $5 shipping. Product, label and packaging cost $9 in total. No Offsite Ads, no sales tax.
- Listing fee: $0.20
- Transaction fee: 6.5% of $30 = $1.95
- Processing fee: 3% of $30 + $0.25 = $1.15
- Total fees: $3.30, 11% of the order. Net profit: $30 − $3.30 − $9 = $17.70, a 59% margin.
If that order came from an Offsite Ad at 15%, add $4.50: fees reach $7.80 and profit falls to $13.20. The same sale made by a French seller in euros costs €3.96 in fees before VAT, because of the higher processing fee and the 1.14% Regulatory Operating fee.
How to keep more of every sale
- Price from your target profit, not from your cost. Percentage fees hit the whole order, so work backwards: price + shipping = (cost + fixed fees + target profit) ÷ (1 − total percentage). For a US seller without Offsite Ads, the percentage is 9.5% (6.5% + 3%).
- List in your payment account currency to avoid the 2.5% conversion fee.
- Turn off auto-renew on listings that never sell, so you stop paying $0.20 for them every four months.
- Add your VAT ID to Etsy if you have one (EU and UK), so VAT stops being added to your fees.
- Watch the $10,000 Offsite Ads threshold. Once you cross it, the 12% rate is permanent and you can no longer opt out.
- Make your photos do more work. Better photos don't cut fees, but they raise the value of each order. See our guide to AI product photos for Etsy.
FAQ
How much does Etsy take from each sale?
On a $30 order (item + shipping) from a US seller: $3.30, about 11%, made of the $0.20 listing fee, the 6.5% transaction fee and 3% + $0.25 processing. A French seller pays about 13% on a €30 order, before any VAT on fees. Offsite Ads add 12% or 15% on the orders they bring in.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee, the payment processing fee and the Regulatory Operating fee all apply to the shipping price you charge.
Can I avoid Offsite Ads fees?
Only while your shop has made less than $10,000 in the past 365 days: you can opt out. Above that, participation is mandatory at 12%, still capped at $100 per order.
Is there a fee to open an Etsy shop?
In some locations Etsy charges a one-time, non-refundable set-up fee. The amount varies by location and is shown during shop setup, so see Etsy for your country.
Why isn't my listing fee exactly $0.20 in euros or pounds?
Fixed fees are published in USD and converted to your payment account currency at the market rate when they post, so the amount moves slightly with exchange rates.
